Kolon Life Science Secures Successive Patents for TG-C in Asia

Kolon Life Science (CEO Lee Han-kook) announced on April 2 that the 'MIXED-CELL GENE THERAPY' patent for TG-C, an osteoarthritis gene therapy candidate under development by its affiliate Kolon TissueGene, was recently approved for successive registrations across Asia.

The core of this patent lies in securing the rights to the 'mixed-cell gene therapy' technology, which includes both cells engineered to produce growth factors (TGF-β or BMP) and cells that exhibit therapeutic efficacy by responding to those specific signals. TG-C is a therapeutic agent administered by mixing Fluid 1 (chondrocytes) and Fluid 2 (genetically modified cells). Through this patent, the rights to this mixed administration technology are now legally protected.

Kolon Life Science has been expanding the scope of this patent’s rights across the Asian region. Following the recent registration approvals in the Philippines and Malaysia last month, the company also secured the patent in Indonesia in February. As Kolon Life Science is responsible for the local development and commercialization of TG-C in Asia, the company plans to further accelerate its commercialization preparations in the Asian region on the back of these active patent registrations.

TG-C is currently in the final stages of its U.S. Phase 3 clinical trial for knee osteoarthritis. Kolon TissueGene, which is conducting the U.S. clinical trials for TG-C, aims to disclose top-line results in July 2026 following data analysis after a two-year follow-up observation period. Based on these results, the company plans to submit a Biologics License Application (BLA) to the U.S. FDA in the first quarter of 2027.

In line with the commercialization timeline of TG-C, Kolon Life Science is also preemptively pushing forward with the establishment of a mass production system for TG-C. Through its subsidiary Kolon Biotech, the company is constructing advanced processing facilities that meet cGMP standards, while continuously upgrading automated processes to ensure the stable mass production of cell and gene therapies.
