▶ Vice Chairman Lee delivers the 2025 ABAC BHWG performance 'Roadmap' to the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 24th and outlines the 5 key healthcare agendas for the 2026 ABAC
▶ Anticiapted to strengthen substantial public-private partnerships in alignment with the APEC HWG
Following last year’s APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, Kolon Group Vice Chairman Lee Kyu-ho is set to continuously strengthen his leadership in the bio-healthcare sector on the international cooperation stage this year.
Kolon Group announced that Vice Chairman Lee met with high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare at The Shilla Seoul on March 24 to share healthcare agendas for this year’s APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and discuss strategies for global public-private partnerships.
Vice Chairman Lee has been leading relevant discussions as the Chair of the ABAC Bio-Healthcare Working Group (BHWG), which was newly established last year. At the meeting, Vice Chairman Lee explained the milestones achieved over the past year as Chair of the ABAC BHWG and personally delivered the 'ABAC Roadmap for Smarter and More Inclusive Healthcare', which reflects the outcomes of discussions held among private healthcare experts across member economies.
The roadmap redefines healthcare not simply as an expense, but as a source of future growth and a strategic investment. It outlines core visions including: medical innovation through data, biotechnology, and AI (Smart Health); sustainable systems ensuring equity and accessibility (Inclusive Health); resilient medical supply chains and financial frameworks capable of withstanding crises (Resilient System); and the expansion of public-private and cross-border cooperation (Collaborative Governance). Through these visions, it presents a concrete strategic direction for developing APEC into the world's most resilient and equitable health community.
Vice Chairman Lee will continue his activities this year as an ABAC Co-Chair, discussing various cooperation measures with business leaders from each economy. In particular, leveraging the fact that South Korea will serve as the Chair Economy of the APEC Health Working Group (HWG) for the next two years starting this year, he intends to seek opportunities to enhance the global competitiveness of the domestic bio-health industry through public-private partnerships in the health and welfare sectors.
Furthermore, Vice Chairman Lee took time to outline five major healthcare agendas to be intensively discussed at ABAC this year to the officials from the Ministry of Health and Welfare. These included the "Technical and Policy Action Tasks for Overcoming Physical Mobility Limitations," which Vice Chairman Lee personally presented at the 1st ABAC Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia last February, as well as addressing inequalities in access to innovative medical products, and establishing frameworks for utilizing data and AI for health innovation.
While playing a leading role in setting global healthcare agendas, Kolon Group continues to strengthen its own bio-healthcare capabilities. Currently, Kolon is accelerating its entry into the global market, having completed patient dosing in the U.S. Phase 3 clinical trial for TG-C, a cell and gene therapy for osteoarthritis, and preparing to submit a Biologics License Application (BLA) to the FDA in 2027.
