Kolon Group announced on the 31st that Vice Chairman Lee Kyu-ho, in his capacity as Chair of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), attended the ABAC Dialogue with Leaders and presented policy recommendations to the APEC leaders.

The Dialogue, held at the Hwabaek Convention Center in Gyeongju, proceeded with policy discussions in small groups, attended by leaders from 21 APEC economies, ABAC members, and key business leaders. Vice Chairman Lee Kyu-ho exchanged views in a group that included ABAC members such as President Lee Jae-myung, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Janet de Silva (Canada), Ted Chang (Taiwan), Sara Otari (New Zealand), and Elaine Lam (Singapore). Lee Joo-wan, Chairman of MegazoneCloud, another Korean ABAC member, also attended.

Vice Chairman Lee, who presided over the meeting, stated in his welcoming remarks, “I am proud to take this opportunity to convey the voices of business leaders more closely to the leaders of each nation.” He added, “ABAC will continue to serve as a bridge for connectivity, inclusiveness, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, breaking down barriers between the economy and industry, reflecting corporate capabilities in sound policy-making, and fostering public-private cooperation.”

Held immediately before the APEC Summit, this meeting brings together ABAC members and APEC leaders, serving as a platform for conveying the concerns and recommendations of private sector leaders to the heads of APEC economies.

ABAC has discussed solutions to key challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region in four meetings over the past year, including the recent session in Busan on the 28th. Specifically, five working groups have developed a total of 41 actionable strategies centered on the core ABAC dialogue theme ‘Bridge, Business, Beyond’ for ▲trade and investment ▲sustainability ▲AI and digital innovation ▲healthcare ▲finance.

Vice Chairman Lee emphasized that day, “With the APEC economic system now accounting for 61% of global GDP, the choices we make together will determine the future direction of the world economy, and thus economic cooperation among APEC member economies is essential.” He then delivered the recommendations to President Lee Jae-myung on behalf of ABAC.

During the luncheon and table discussions that followed the presentation of the recommendations, President Lee Jae-myung commended the ABAC members who had prepared for the APEC Summit over the past year and Vice Chairman Lee's economic diplomacy activities, engaging in cordial conversation.

After the discussions, Vice Chairman Lee stated in his closing remarks, “I believe exchanges such as ABAC within APEC are essential for building partnerships between businesses and governments to drive regional growth and inclusiveness.” He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I extend my deepest appreciation to the ABAC members for their insights in developing these recommendations and to the leaders of each nation for their attentive consideration. I look forward to seeing you all again at the next ABAC activities in China.”
