▷ Kolon Global's two technologies selected out of 15 projects this year, proving technological excellence

▷ 280 digital technologies including drones and BIM applied across 150 major sites nationwide

Kolon Global (President and CEO Kim Jeong-il) announced on the 29th that two of its specialized technologies has been selected for the ‘2025 Smart Construction Technology Demonstration Support Project’ led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Smart Construction Technology Demonstration Support Project supports the commercialization of smart technologies by facilitating their demonstration on construction sites. This year, a total of 15 projects were selected across six fields, including construction automation, digital sensing, and smart safety. Among these, two technologies from Kolon Global—a smart safety system dedicated to tower cranes and a drone station technology specialized for islands—were included, securing technical support.

As a result, Kolon Global plans to apply and refine the technologies by demonstrating the tower crane-specific smart safety system at the Cheongju Dongnam private-participated public housing construction project and the island-specialized drone station at the National Route 77 Hwatae-Baekya Road Construction Project.

The tower crane-specific smart safety system of Kolon Global, selected in the smart safety field, is a technology designed to meticulously record tower crane operation status while enhancing wire rope management capabilities. Utilizing this technology enables data collection for each component of the tower crane and early detection of defects such as breakage, wear, and corrosion.

Another innovation selected in the digital sensing category is the island-specific drone station. Its key feature is the real-time integration of aerial data collected by drones into a construction management platform, enabling remote tasks such as earthwork volume calculation, construction progress tracking, and quality control. Furthermore, by incorporating 3D visualization technology, it allows for a comprehensive overview of construction progress without needing to visit the site. This technology is recognized as an innovation that shifts the paradigm of construction management in island regions.

A Kolon Global official stated, “Through this demonstration project, we plan to address the technical support needed on-site using smart construction technology,” adding, “We will lead the digital transformation of the construction industry by integrating advanced technology with construction know-how.”

Meanwhile, Kolon Global is accelerating the creation of a smart construction environment by applying over 280 digital-based technologies, including drones and BIM, to the 68 sites currently operating nationwide. Aligned with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Smart Construction Roadmap, Kolon Global plans to achieve a 25% increase in productivity and a reduction in safety incidents by 2030 through site digitalization.
