Kolon Mobility Group, a comprehensive mobility company, announced that it had signed a new partnership with British sports car brand Lotus on Thursday the 25th. This partnership will allow Kolon to undertake exclusive distribution in Korea as the official importer of Lotus.
Lotus is considered one of the world’s top three sports car makers along with Ferrari and Porche. With its super lightweight and attractive design, it represents an unrivalled brand identity as a ‘pure ultra-light sports car’.
In recent years, in line with the expansion of the electric vehicle market, the car maker has introduced an electric SUV, the Eletre, an unconventional move to shift from a sports car brand powered by a high-performance internal combustion engine to a full-fledged electric car maker. Through its exclusive dealership with Lotus, Kolon Mobility Group intends to prepare for future demand by making an early entry into the electric vehicle market in line with the changing automobile market paradigm.
Lotus has decided to form a partnership with Kolon Mobility in recognition of the rapid growth in demand for premium imported cars in Korea and the diversifying trend of consumer preferences for luxury car brands. Kolon Mobility is an official dealer in Korea for high-end cars such as BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, Audi, Volvo and Jeep. The company has been chosen as the sole domestic importer of Lotus in recognition of its long history and expertise in the distribution and sales of imported cars.
Kolon Mobility will introduce two new models to Korea: the Emira – Lotus’ last internal combustion-based sports car, and the Eletre – the brand’s first electric SUV. Both models are scheduled to be delivered in the first and second half of 2024, respectively.
The Lotus showroom in Korea is scheduled to open at the end of September in Gangnam, a key commercial district for imported cars. The Emira and Eletre will both be on display, and pre-orders can be made following the opening of the showroom. The showroom will have a luxurious interior incorporating the latest Lotus brand identity to provide customers with a differentiated brand experience.
In addition, an official service center is scheduled to open in the second half of the year in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang. It will provide a full service ranging from vehicle inspections to general and accident car repairs. This one-stop service from maintenance to repairs is expected to provide great customer accessibility and after-sales convenience.
An official from Kolon Mobility said, “We intend to secure core capabilities as a specialist distributor of automobiles ranging from premium to luxury high-performance models. We will work closely with Lotus which is actively expanding in the Korean market to provide customers with a diversified mobility experience.”
Lotus is a sports car brand founded in 1952 by Colin Chapman, a former design engineer. Based on motorsports philosophy, Lotus’ unique brand identity was established by focusing on a driving performance achieved through a lightweight body rather than pure power output. It topped the podium in a total of 79 races. A wide range of global brands including Aston Martin have consulted with Lotus engineering on the development of their own sports cars.
