Kolon Industries publishes 2021 Sustainability Report to accelerate ESG management to reach Net-Zero by 2040

Kolon Industries (CEO Hee-Goo Jang) announced on August 18 that it recently published the 2021 Sustainability Report containing its sustainable management strategy and the major achievements and the future goals. The details are available in a separate booklet or at the company website.

Kolon Industries’ 5 key strategies pertaining to ESG management are: △ Achievement of 2040 Net Zero (domestic business sites); △ Development of Eco-Friendly Products/Materials and
Expansion of Eco-friendly Businesses; △ Establishment of an Environment/Safety Accident free Workplace; △Realization of Win-win Management throughout the Business Value Chain; and

△Strengthening Management Transparency and Internalizing Ethical Management. The Sustainability Report elaborates on these key strategies together with the 16 priority initiatives.

By enhancing the efficiency of the processes and optimizing the operation of the facilities, Kolon Industries reduced approximately 4,400 tons of greenhouse gas last year. The company will continue to promote its environmentally friendly policies by factoring in the characteristics of the business sites and the products, and plans to obtain the Integrated Environmental Permit in all business sites by 2024.

Kolon Industries is also leading the efforts to secure competitiveness through technology innovation. This year, it established the Corporate Strategy Officer (CSO) organization to be responsible for future businesses including research on hydrogen production and storage solutions, and development of materials for next generation secondary batteries. It also launched the Kolon Carbon Neutralization Task Force (KCN TF) to support carbon-neutral business management. Product development is in progress that uses green materials such as bio plastic made with Hydrogenated Hydrocarbon Resin (HRR), which was developed to be used in eco-friendly adhesive, and biomass.

This issue of the Sustainability Report helps the readers better understand the major issues related to sustainable management, as it adopts the format of interviews with responsible personnel. The Report also features the introduction of the company’s eco-friendly biodegradable plastic and hydrogen fuel cell business and “RE;CODE,” the upcycled fashion brand.
