KOLON Glotech’s Geonic receives an array of global design awards

• Winner of the iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award 2022

▷ Recognized for its three-dimensional appearance, it utilizes a 3D PU layer and a scalability which can deliver a variety of graphic and color applications. 

KOLON Glotech (CEO, Kim Young-beom) announced on the 2nd that its 3D hybrid material GEONIC had received two world-renowned design awards in a row. 

GEONIC is a proprietary technology developed by KOLON Glotech. Multiple layers of polyurethane (PU) are stacked on to artificial leather or fabric, enabling creative design expression by allowing different materials, colors and graphics to be combined.    

GEONIC is particularly useful for future mobility systems. It is made from eco-friendly materials and has a broad scalability enabling design tailored to different interior parts. GEONIC is currently applied to the trim in many areas of KIA Motor’s electric vehicle, EV6.   

In recognition of its technology and performance, GEONIC was selected as a winner in the Textiles / Walls / Floor discipline at the iF Design Awards 2022. The iF Design Awards is an international design competition hosted by the International Forum Design of Germany since 1954. This year there were some 11,000 entries from 57 countries around the world.  

Also in March, with the same entry, GEONIC was selected as the 2022 winner in the Materials and Surfaces category of the Red Dot Design Award, which along with the iF Design Award, is one of the world’s top three design awards. Back in 2013, GEONIC received a ‘Best of the Best’ award with a car seat design in the design concepts category of the Red Dot Design Award. The design in question was actually applied to the seating of the Land Rover Defender.
