▷ To expedite establishing the basis for sustainable growth by diversifying global customers
KOLON Plastics (CEO Min-Soo Bang) to tap into the global market by participating in FAKUMA 2021
The FAKUMA is an international trade fair that started in 1981, where plastics processing processes including injection molding, compression molding, thermoform and 3D printing, and industrial products applied with the latest technologies are showcased. This year, around 1,500 companies took part in the exhibition, which was held at the Messe Friedrichshafen, Germany, from October 12 to 16, 2021.
KOLON Plastics introduced its new material solutions applied in next generation, eco-friendly mobility.
KOLON Plastics has been taking part in the FAKUMA fair since 2012, showcasing its technology and steadily raising its brand awareness. The company established its local subsidiary in Frankfurt, Germany in February 2021, to pave the way to expanding its global customer base in Europe.
KOLON Plastics introduced its latest engineering plastics technology. They showcased their diverse products, created in response to the global market conditions where the demand for electric and hydrogen vehicles is rapidly increasing.
Materials and parts made for electrical devices were most noticeable in the exhibition. As an eco-friendly vehicle is largely composed of electrical devices, each device should also be durable against electrical risks to ensure efficient operation. The high voltage connector made by KOLON Plastics is designed to be cutting-edge and flame resistant. The color, shape and the performance remain intact under severe conditions such as high temperature and high pressure during recharging. At the FAKUMA fair, KOLON Plastics displayed their battery packaging, which protects secondary batteries from energy loss, sensors used in autonomous driving systems, and safety equipment, and electromagnetic shield materials that prevent malfunction of communication devices.
KOLON Plastics also introduced the world’s best POM (Polyoxymethylene) products. POM, made by KOLON Plastics, is durable against shock. It is less abrasive and is used in electric motor gears and safety belt buttons. It is environmentally friendly with low odor (LO), and hardly any formaldehyde, a harmful substance to the environment, is generated during production and from finished products. KOLON Plastics is planning to advance into high value-added markets such as health care and drinking water by continuously improving the durability and the safety of eco-friendly POM products.
KOLON Plastics also showcased cutting-edge plastic parts that are strong enough to replace metal in vehicles, yet are very light. Since electric or hydrogen vehicles are loaded with battery packs that are much heavier than those used in an internal combustion engine vehicle, it is essential that the weight of the parts is lightened to offset the battery weight and improve the output efficiency.
Min-Soo Bang, CEO of KOLON Plastics, who visited FAKUMA 2021, remarked that “FAKUMA 2021 was a good opportunity to meet the customers in person for the first time in two years since the COVID19 pandemic. We were able to introduce our cutting-edge technologies including highly functional materials for next generation mobility, and lighter and sustainable materials. It also allowed us to discuss new partnerships. We plan to expand our core customer base in areas such as automotive, daily supplies, and medical devices by leveraging our newly established subsidiary in Europe, increase the share of sales of high value-added products, and create the basis for expedited growth in the global market.”
