▶ Wins 2025 Smart Construction Challenge Innovation Award and BIM Award Grand Prize
▶ Expected to enhance process efficiency and prevent industrial accidents
▶ Phased expansion of smart technology adoption aligned with BIM development and mandatory implementation roadmap
Kolon Global (CEO Kim Jeong-il) announced on the 6th that it had achieved double honors in the smart construction and BIM sectors.
Kolon Global received the ‘Innovation Award’ in the BIM category at the ‘2025 Smart Construction Challenge’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 5th. Now in its sixth year, the Smart Construction Challenge is a technology competition selecting outstanding technologies across five fields: safety management, residential developments, roads, railways, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). This year, 97 teams participated in the competition.
The technology selected for this innovation award is an optimization process that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR) technology. It precisely refines construction processes and material quantities by linking pre-construction data during the design phase. This technology ensures both efficiency and safety through detailed techniques including construction optimization, reduced work time, minimized risk, and an XR-based decision-making system.
This technology is credited with efficiently overcoming constraints at urban construction sites where space is limited or equipment access is difficult. It has pioneered digital innovation in construction sites by implementing AI risk prediction and immersive safety simulations. It also earned high marks for optimizing three key management elements—process, cost, and safety—by converting them into data.
Prior to this, Kolon Global also won top prize in the construction category at the ‘2025 BIM Awards’ hosted by the Building Smart Association last month for its ‘BIM-based Smart Safety Management’ solution.
The technology selected for the Grand Prize is a predictive safety management system that integrates management across all processes from design to construction and operation based on BIM data. It was recognized as a model case for improving process efficiency. This technology is expected to significantly contribute to preventing industrial accidents through smart safety management optimization, including real-time drone and CCTV monitoring and 4D process simulation.
A Kolon Global official stated, “This award presents a blueprint demonstrating the immense value that technology-driven data integration can create in actual field operations,” adding, “We will continue to enhance productivity and technological competitiveness at construction sites through BIM-based digital innovation.”
Kolon Global is meanwhile progressively expanding its field-centered BIM implementation and adoption of XR technology in alignment with the government-led BIM development and mandatory adoption roadmap. The company also has plans to continuously enhance its smart construction environment, suitable for the digital transformation era, by establishing a safety and quality management system based on a CDE (Common Data Environment) platform.
